Personal Branding For Gen Y’s Success

While doing some work on personal branding for the workplace (for both corporate employees and business owners), I came across many stories from managers and journalists about working with people in their 20′s. A few of those stories gave glowing reports about 20-somethings regarding their creativity and desire to find better ways to do their work. Most of the stories, however, described situations that made the reader say, “He did what?” or “She said that to her boss?”There’s the story of a 23 year old woman in downstate Illinois who showed up at a company for an interview. She walked into the office with her dad. At first, the manager who was to interview her thought, “Maybe her car is in the shop and she needed a ride, so her dad drove her here.” But he quickly realized that her dad could have just dropped her off at the company and came back later to pick her up. The manager decided right away, before the interview even started, that she wasn’t getting the job. Then he decided to have some fun with it. As he called the woman into his office for the interview, he said to her dad, “Sir, would you like to come in, too?” Unbelievably, the dad agreed and came into the interview with his daughter! There’s the story of the 24 year old man, newly hired, who explained to his boss that he needs Fridays off because his girlfriend has Fridays off, too, and they have a share in a beach house. There are stories told by HR representatives from various companies of parents of newly
recruited college graduates calling to ask about Johnny’s or Jill’s benefits package. There are many workplace stories of excessive cell phone usage for social calls, inappropriate
clothing choices, and expectations of being promoted within two years to a level that others have worked and waited for, for five to 10 years. The ProblemThe problem is that, when the hundreds and thousands of managers out there read accounts written by other managers and journalists regarding the “bad” things about working with Gen Y people, it reflects poorly on all Gen Y men and women. If you’re a Gen Y, you might be reading this and thinking, “Hey! That’s not what I do in the workplace. It isn’t fair to label me in that way and to put me in the same bucket as those people!”True. You have a very good point. So, what are you going to do about it?You’ve been branded in a way that you didn’t want to be branded. Many of your peers are not living in a professional manner in the workplace. The managers out there put all of you (in your age category) into the same “bucket.” And you don’t see yourself as acting unprofessionally in the workplace. That means you have to define your brand, develop your brand, and communicate your brand so that you get the interview you want, the job you want, and the future promotions you want. Sound good? How do you do that?Define Your BrandRead articles and books about what is going on in the workplace, especially in regard to your age group. What are you already doing that is quite professional that you want to be known for?Pay attention at your current job to people of all ages. Make note of how they handle their work, how they handle interpersonal situations, what they speak about at meetings and in day-to-day conversations, how they dress, how timely they are regarding responding to people’s requests for information, etc. What is it about certain peoples’ styles that would be good to work into your own personal brand? (I’m not saying you should act as if you’re 40; I’m saying that you need to pull behavioral tendencies from people who are professional all the way around.)Develop Your BrandAs you pull together components of your personal brand, decide how you’re going to pull it all together as part of “who you are” in the workplace. Consider:
Who your “customer” is (the people who will pay you)
What your competition is doing (you’ve read some of their stories!)
Your visual identity
Your verbal identity
The messages you want your brand to convey
Communicate Your BrandWhen your personal brand is put together, you need to plan how you will communicate your brand over time to your “customer” (and to anyone else who could be a future “customer,” remembering that these are the people who can offer you a better job, a promotion, more money, and more opportunities in the future). This includes communication within your own company, how you communicate for potential work at a different company, perhaps a blog where you write about various topics that involve your profession, and anything else that gives you visibility. The Bottom LineGen Y, some of your peers are messing up out there. Take advantage of this by creating and communicating a terrific, professional personal brand that knocks the socks off of the baby boomers and Gen-Xers in the work world. Rise above the stories out there about working with Gen Y.Remember, the most important thing you need to know about branding is this:If you don’t brand yourself, someone else will; and it probably won’t be the brand you want!© 2008 Borgeson Consulting, Inc.

Creating New Healthcare Brand Energy: 8 Tips To Energize Your Brand And Business

At some point, your organization is going to get stuck. Regardless of how successful you are, at some point, growth stalls. It happens to the best of organizations and the best of management teams. Consider Apple, AT&T, The Gap, Kodak, and as of this writing, Facebook. Your organization’s engine just can’t keep running at peak performance forever. The reasons for the slowdown vary. Externally, it could be a sluggish economy, changing category dynamics (e.g. the recently mandated Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act), or the fluid nature of your competitive playing field (e.g. healthcare partners who are also now competitors). But just as often, stalls emanate from the inside-out, which means that they are actually controllable by management. It might be a case of leadership not being aligned around strategy, the organization losing its focus, the inability to make big decisions or inconsistent brand management and marketing execution. How can you as a healthcare marketing leader contribute to righting the ship? How can you help to create the energy that keeps your organization, your employees, your brands and your business moving forward?New energy sparks. Here are eight interrelated brand, buy-in, and marketing tips to help you re-energize your healthcare brand and business.1. Revisit Your Energizing Brand Core. Every great business is propelled by a great brand idea. It’s the one asset that can align your healthcare organization around common purpose and beliefs, guide your strategy and actions, and distinguish you from competition. Without it, there’s no assurance that you’re aligned on strategy and heading in the same direction.Consider a company called BodyMedia. They create simple, technology-based products that put actionable information into the hands of users to help them become healthier and happier. But “why they do it” (their energizing brand idea) is to unlock and decipher the body’s secrets and to put that information directly into the hands of individuals… empowering them to improve their lives. It’s a really tight, compelling and distinguishing brand story. Competitors can copy much of the functional things that reside within your hospital or health system, but they can’t copy your organization’s unique brand energy. This is your most sustainable competitive advantage.2. Create a Mantra. A concise statement that captures your healthcare organization’s purpose and informs your everyday decisions (beyond a marketing slogan), both behind the curtain and in front of the crowd. Given the phrase’s brevity, it’s not the typical indistinguishable and highly forgettable mission statement. Continuing with the Body Media example, their essence is simply and powerfully conveyed through the outward looking phrase Know Your Body. Change Your Life. A couple of other examples include Starbuck’s “Rewarding everyday moments” and Apple’s “Think Different.”To help you on your way to your mantra, consider those few words that reflect and answer:• Who are we?• What do we believe in?• What drives and unites us?• What will be our legacy?3. Brand-Centric Culture. Branding is ultimately about delivering on the promise of your vision in everything you do. This starts with energized and aligned teams who understand and embrace their nurturing role. Tips for creating energy from the inside-out include:a. Paint a compelling and tangible picture for the future that can energize the organization and inspire high levels of optimism, engagement, and performance. b. Ensure your branding strategy binds the organization together while supporting individual hospital and service line identities, answering the question, “What do we (all of us and each of us) stand for?”c. Equip Leadership, Directors and Managers to champion to all employees, your future vision and brand positioning. d. Establish on-going, two-way communication processes to check progress, communicate successes, solve implementation problems, and sustain enthusiasm. e. Utilize all available formal communication vehicles to inform, inspire, and engage internal audiences. At the end of the day, your people – not brand manuals – are the only way to truly maximize your healthcare organization’s brand energy.4. Change Your View. Look to outside categories and brands for new inspiration. Consider beliefs: how customers understand and relate to the “why” (the meaning and purpose) of brands like Apple and Virgin, beyond what they do. Consider behaviors: how brand beliefs can be powerfully demonstrated beyond words alone (e.g. Mayo). Consider bonding: how consumers want to be part of a brand’s promise and experience (e.g. Ritz-Carlton). Consider benevolence: thinking beyond functional brand benefits to making the world a better place (e.g. Method Cleaning Products). And consider bold: how you might change the rules and create a clear alternative to existing choices and practices (e.g. Innocent).5. Ask Better Questions. Obvious questions yield expected answers that are more affirming and validating. Better questions peel away the outer layers of an issue to reveal new things about the category, company, customer, connections and communication – to yield inspirational new insights and ideas. They provide answers that lead you to “I never thought about that in this way before”, “never imagined they looked at their world this way before”, “never imagined we could provide value this way before.”6. Marketing That Matters. How does your healthcare marketing in and of itself add value to customer’s lives? Your communities and prospective patients don’t really care about the narrow view of what you have to offer. They care deeply about their broader view of what you can do for them. Consider:• their aspirations vs. your functional benefits• their desire for participation vs. your desire for attention• their desire to engage by doing vs. your selling• their desire for community vs. your transaction focusWhile “image” alone used to sell, and ads used to be at the center of the marketing universe, today’s playbook is driven by the idea of actions speaking louder than words. The most important question to ask of your brand is what can be its place in people’s lives?7. Social beyond social media. Social media has forever changed how your audiences interact with, and thus their expectations about the relationship they have with, brands. They expect more transparency, purpose, conversation and connection. But while healthcare marketing has taken more of a wait and see approach relative to other industries, patient and community expectations have not. Because people are people – regardless of whether you characterize them as patients or communities.Even though you might just be getting into the game, healthcare marketers must now begin to think beyond “social media” as a channel. Integrating the tenets of “social” into all that you do to create value for your patients, communities and organizations. Because regardless of vehicle, they’re expecting to converse, connect and contribute.Ask yourself, how can you create and propagate genuine and meaningful cross-channel conversations? That let them interact with, and through, your healthcare brands? On their terms, in their (not your marketing) language.8. Purpose Beyond Profit. The Method Cleaning Products brand competes with many established cleaning brands. But they stand apart based on their “caring beyond cleaning” point-of-view. Case in point, have a look at Method’s “the humanifesto.” As people against dirty, it lays out the company’s sixteen stances that underscore their story, beliefs and promises.Method is actually a very relevant role model for your healthcare marketing efforts, and to your organization at large. Today’s customers (your patients and communities) expect an organization they do business with to be more intentionally purposeful. To stand for something that inspires and motivates people on the inside and outside of your business. In turn, and the proof of this is reflected in real business returns, customers are willing to reward them with share of mind and wallet. The future of your business hinges on thinking about the sweet spot between your purpose and profit. What can genuinely put your organization at the heart of your customer’s world? How can your purpose link to progress in the communities in which your organization operates? In healthcare, which is so local to begin with, you have an inherent advantage to dovetail with your customers’ world and invite employees and customers to take part in the vision. Know that you are defined by what you do, not what you say. It’s the difference between delivering a promise (through message) and delivering on a purpose (through actions).

Entrepreneurs – Want to Open a Small Catering Business and Not Sure What You Need?

You want to set up a small catering business or maybe a part time business and are not sure what you need to do to be legal and efficient.First of all, you will need a food handling certificate at least and you will need your kitchen inspected so that it reaches the legal health and safety requirements. You will then need this certified and usually checked each year. This will involve you understanding about fridge and freezer storage and food handling including the difference between cooked, processed and frozen meat. You will need to show that you understand about using different knives and chopping boards as well as general hand, surface and food cleanliness. Needs vary from country and state to state so you need to check the appropriate requirements. In addition you will need:
* To pay tax – everyone needs to do that – but you will get a lot of allowances – go to your country’s tax web site or get advice from an accountant.
* Limited liability insurance – so that you don’t get sued for any accidents or problems.Catering for numerous people at once or numerous people in a rota is far different from domestic cooking. You will need different kit such as large pots, pans and cooking trays, heavy duty utensils and good quality knives and cookery gloves. You will also need hardwearing, quality crockery and cutlery (flatware) as well as a selection of cups and saucers and glasses. You may also need an industrial cooker/oven and dishwashing machine to cope with the volume of cooking. You might also need disposables such as serviettes/tissues/napkins and condiments and sauces. Lastly you may need benches, tables and chairs for your guests. If you are carrying food to other places you will need a bains marie to keep it hot and a refrigerator to keep it cool. Food that goes below or above set temperatures is asking for food poisoning! You can hire crockery, cutlery and glasses if need be – but most other items you will need to buy or lease.Good luck in your new business.

Worker Shortage Might Be Excellent News For The Economy

A worker shortage might be excellent news for the economy! Maybe, just maybe, firms will awake and see workers’ substantial contribution to their success. Some CEOs take unconscionable sums and destroy their firm’s value, unlike many frontline workers who create value. During the pandemic, CEOs took vast sums as they laid-off workers. Some firms sought bankruptcy protection, but hat didn’t stop their greedy CEOs from snatching hefty bonuses.

We have a worker shortage and firms are scrambling to hire whomever is willing. Some firms, like McDonalds have paid signing bonuses. Canada’s Loblaw and its competitors paid a bonus to frontline workers when the pandemic began. They stopped it after three months in unison with their competitors. When government confronted them about this collusion, they claimed it happened independently. Go figure! It’s like you caught your three-year-old with her hand in the cookie jar and she said, Mom, “Cookie Monster did it!”

Worker Shortage Inevitable With Shoddy Treatment

Loblaw’s behavior disturbs me. During the bonus period, profits soared. Per se, that’s no problem. I favor firms making profits. To be sure, I am against government taxing profits. But paying workers the bonus during the pandemic shouldn’t hinge on profits. It was just right. Meanwhile, my wife and I shopped at a Loblaw store and workers continued their excellent service despite Loblaw’s slight.

Leaders must realize frontline workers are the firm’s foundation and treat them well, not as cogs turning out CEOs bonuses! When employers treat workers like machines, they disengage. Gallup said, over several decades, they and other researchers found a strong link between employees’ workplace engagement and the company’s overall performance. Yet employers refuse to accept this. But there is good news: surveys show some firms break the mold and treat workers with respect: Cisco, Apple, Accenture, IBM, FedEx are a few.

Next Quarter’s Earnings Drives Businesses

Companies see next quarter as the prize, so they exploit workers and fudge next quarter’s numbers. I repeat: I am against government taxing business. However, I favor the Biden Build Back Better provision to tax share buybacks that the House passed, and it is before the Senate, even if it might have only a modest effect on share buybacks. Companies shouldn’t be spending billions buying back shares while exploiting workers.

Firms should present to shareholder meetings options to use buyback funds. Choices might include effects of paying bonuses to frontline workers with buyback funds. Shareholders should hear about potential strategic investments, too. Another option is stopping buy-backs for five years after layoffs. Executives, too, shouldn’t get bonuses within five years of layoffs. We must get rid of worker exploitation that enhances CEO bonuses.

Importance of Restaurant Marketing Agency

Restaurants need to encompass considerable marketing avenues for the sake of success. Without publicity and marketing, there are chances that the restaurant may not survive in the market. But with thorough planning and enactment, the restaurant’s promotion can grab the customer’s attention just like that.

The restaurant business is quite tough. It is difficult for the owners to flourish in this thrift and with very low profits. Restaurant owners are enthusiastic about food because not much profit is left after paying all the mandatory expenses like produce, wages, upkeep, and maintenance. Better so than eternally, restaurants publicity and marketing are necessary.

Some restaurant owners thoroughly expand their profit margin by contracting their business prototype and resemblance to others, assembling a franchise, spreading their reputation, and cultivating a future passive income. While others choose to concentrate on their flagship eatery, trusting that quality over quality is vital for drumming up future business.

Smart advertising encourages the restaurant owner to create a good reputation in the market and reach customers who might not even have heard about the restaurants near them. It also promotes the restaurants with discounts, offers, special occasions, and new items to the menu.

For marketing purposes, the best way is social media. Whether people are seeking someplace to dine in safely or looking for the best takeaway service, they turn on the social media app. The more the traffic drives to your specific website or page, the more you will succeed in this business.

What the advertising brings to the restaurants

It helps to target customers, as if the customers like the taste of the food at a specific restaurant, they will start recommending that place to their colleagues and friends. Advertising helps target particular types of customers and proves to be more effective.
Advertising certainly helps to stay competitive in the business. The competitors will be advertising their specific establishment to the customers. They will assume that the establishment has lacked publicity, is less thriving, and offers less than the other competitors.
Publicity and advertisement are thoroughly an investment. If the restaurant owner is investing wisely, they will surely profit from that. But the amount to be spent on publicity depends upon the area and type of restaurant. Usually, casual and family-specific restaurants do not spend more on advertising, while fine-dining restaurants spend more because they must create a lavish image.
Publicizing can certainly help to develop crucial aspects of the restaurant’s reputation. Advertising fetches the customers by creating the business’s reputation in the community.
Hiring a marketing agency can reduce almost all of the burden regarding advertisement. A good social media marketing agency can maintain whatsoever the name’s niche and aesthetics through social media. Great brand recognition can lead to more followers, leading to more traffic to the site and a boost in orders.

Uses of Silicon Carbide Ceramics in Different Industries

With the passage of time, there has been continuous development in the world of solar energy, nuclear power, smart grid, electric vehicles, rail transportation, aerospace, aviation, and navigation. Therefore, this trend has increased requirements for power equipment performance. These days, the first generation of silicon materials is about to hit the theoretical limit that was originally determined. The third generation features a wider bandwidth, electron saturation, and thermal conductivity. In this article, we are going to talk about a new type of material called silicon carbide ceramics. And we will specifically discuss the applications of silicon carbide ceramics in different industries. Read on to find out more.

As far as potential is concerned, silicon carbide ceramic is the most mature choice. As a matter of fact, many of its indicators are much better than silicon. For example, it has a 300% higher bandwidth. Apart from this, the theoretical operational temperature of this material is 600 Celsius. Now, let’s talk about the different uses of this material.

Electric Vehicles

Since these modules can have a sustainable, intelligent, low carbon, and green development, we can say that the advantages of this material are primarily reflected in the following three aspects.

1. Simplification of the power supply Network and boosting the frequency

2. Increasing the temperature and reducing losses

3. Improving efficiency and reducing the volume

As far as power conversion is concerned, components made of silicon carbide cal can help improve performance. In electric models, the active load-bearing component is the electric motor. These motors have different rotational speeds. Therefore, these motors require repeated acceleration and acceleration during the process of driving. Therefore, the working condition is more complex compared to the speed regulating system.

Transmission Systems

If you have a silicon-based device, your best choice is are switch made from silicon carbide. This is because this material has an extremely low resistance. Therefore, it is an ideal choice for applications where high frequency and temperature are involved.

The thing is that this material can reduce the loss of power by up to five hundred percent. Moreover, it is possible to reduce weight and size by over 40%. Therefore, it can help have a positive impact on the grid configuration and adjustment of energy strategy.

Solar Energy Field

If you are looking for advice that can be used in solar inverters, silicon carbide is an ideal choice. It comes with a small size, reduced costs, and much higher efficiency. Typically, the conversion efficiency of these inverters is around 96%. But if silicon carbide is used, it is possible to increase the efficiency to 97.5%. In other words, these devices can help produce power losses by 25%. Apart from this, these inverters can help boost conversion efficiency significantly.

LED Lighting

These days, the popularity of LED devices that use silicon carbide is on the rise. The thing is that these LEDs are much brighter and can reduce the cost by up to 50%. They are 200% brighter than other types of lights.

Similarly, they have 10 times more thermal conductivity. In routine life, you can apply this type of lighting for different types of environments, such as color display devices, information screens, indoor lighting, and signal lights. The thing is that they can help reduce pollution and cost.
